ANNA
Anna was my husband's and
my first cat. We found her in February,1997 in the most unlikely
place. We had gone to a bookstore after dinner one evening and while I
was looking around, I heard a faint "meow" at the emergency exit door.
I ran back to my husband and told him I heard a cat at the back door. Being
animal lovers, we had to look for this cat, especially since it was a very
cold night. We got in our car and drove around the back of the store and
found this small, gray kitten wanting in the back door. Not knowing
when the kitten had eaten last, we had some chopped steak leftover
from dinner and put it out for the little thing to eat. She-we had determined
the kitten was female-ate heartily. Knowing that we couldn't leave her
there, we put her in the car and headed home. After my husband and I got
home, we found the kitten was very loving. She was all over us! However,
when we went to bed, she wouldn't leave us alone and kept jumping on the
bed, meowing. After a sleepless night, my husband and I decided that we
weren't ready for a cat and that day, we took her to our local Humane Association.
My husband took her in the building as I stayed out in the car, crying.
Later that night, I told my husband I wanted her back as I realized I had
already become attached to the kitten. The next day I picked her up from
the Humane Association and she became part of our family. A trip to the
vet determined that she was about 7 months old. We named her "Anna" as
that is my first name.
