DAVY'S "DAYDREAM BELIEVIN'" BOOKSIGNING IN NASHVILLE (4/15/00)
by Charlyne Smith
DAVY AND ME! (4/15/00)
The week before, I saw it
in the paper...Davy was going to do a
booksigning at Hickory
Hollow Mall in Nashville on Saturday, April 15th!
I couldn't believe it!
Immediately, I planned to go. Since I live in
Nashville, I didn't have
too far to travel! That Saturday morning I was
very nervous! In a few
hours, I was going to see Davy! He was scheduled
to sign from 1:00pm-3:00pm.
I got to the mall around 11:15am and found
the place where Davy would
be signing his books. I met some new Monkees
friends, and as we talked
and looked at Monkees pictures, my nervousness
went away. Around 12:00
or so, an area was roped off for the line to
form. I wasn't too far
back in line since I had arrived at the mall so
early. As the time got
closer to 1:00, I got more anxious! Davy was late
getting to the mall, but
I attributed that to heavy traffic. When he
finally arrived, it was
1:45, but just seeing him made the wait
worthwhile! He looked great!
He was dressed in a gray suit with shirt to
match. Davy walked to the
podium and began signing his books. Even
though it was posted that
no posed pictures be taken, some girls at the
front of the line ahead
of me asked him for a posed picture and he was
gracious to do so. After
that, Davy was very obliging to everyone that
wanted a posed picture
with him. When it was my turn in line, I had my
"Daydream Believin'" book
with me and showed him that he'd already
signed it (since I had
pre-ordered his book) and asked if he would sign a
picture that I had brought.
He was very willing to do so, even though it
had been stated that he
would only sign books first. After we had our
posed picture made, I stepped
to the side and just watched everyone else
go through the line and
I took more pictures as well. As time went on,
Davy seemed to be more
at ease. As he was signing, he began singing with
the tape of his music that
was playing and was clowning around with some
of the fans. I was very
impressed with Davy's willingness to accomodate
his fans. He was very gracious
and nice to everyone who came through the
line, paying special attention
to the small children and those who were
physically challenged.
Toward the end of the line,
I could tell that Davy
was getting tired.
It was about 4:30 by this
time, but Davy made sure that everyone in the
line had had a book signed
and a posed picture made. When the time came
for him to leave, I wondered
if I would ever get another chance to see
Davy, but just seeing him
that day and especially having my
picture made with him was
a dream come true!
Davy, thank you for coming
to Nashville and I hope
that someday you'll be able to return!
